February is Black History Month and is a wonderful time to learn about the accomplishments and contributions that African Americans have made in history. Did you know that a black man invented the Super Soaker Water Gun?! How fun is that! I have shared below some activities that can be done as an entire family to celebrate and learn Black history.

1. Visit an African American History Museum - We are so lucky to live in a city rich with Black history and culture. We plan to visit a few of the museums located here in Atlanta, GA. The Apex Museum is rich with culture, I visited a few times as a child and plan to take my daughter. We will also be checking out the National Center for Civil and Human Rights museum for the first time. Try visiting any local history museums in your area.
2. Watch documentaries about the lives of African Americans - There are tons of movies and documentaries about African Americans on Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Video, and Hulu. Simply search "black history" and something will pop up. I would suggest The African Americans: Many Rivers To Cross.
3. Read black history books.
4. Color black history worksheets - This website has fun worksheets to color and to learn about important people in history. This website also has some fun crafts for kids.
February is a beautiful month. I am happy to re-learn along with my daughter about black people who shaped our history. How are you celebrating black history month? Let me know in the comments below! Until next time.
