Fun Fall Books for Kids

Fall is here and it is our most favorite season of the year! Yes, I know everyone says that fall is their favorite season but we really love the fall. The weather, the trees, the fall festivals and activities and mostly Halloween! Halloween was my daughter's first holiday after being born and we have been hooked ever since. In the fall, we love to read books about the season and the upcoming holiday. I'd like to share with you some of the books we are reading.

All of these books are super fun to have in any book collection. My daughter's favorite is Fright Club and my favorite is Leaf Man. What books are you reading this fall season?

DIY Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum

It's that time of year again! We are in our second year of homeschooling, my daughter and I are both getting into a productive routine and we are really enjoying learning together. I have noticed that my daughter is a auditory learner, so for this kindergarten school year we will be focusing on reading,. Whether it's me reading to my daughter, learning phonics, and sight words, most of this curriculum will be reading out loud. Everyone's homeschool days and routines are different, so I would like to share what we are using for our reading focused kindergarten school year.

Reading/Language Arts/Writing

During our 4 year old preschool year, Ava picked up handwriting pretty well and pretty fast. This year we will continue to practice writing, individual letters, numbers, words, and sentences. We will be doing daily journaling and writing short letters to friends. We will also be working on sight words as Ava is interested in learning to read. We are enjoying these  Pinkalicious phonics books so far, she is also doing pretty well with sight words and recognizing sight words in books.

Math

My daughter loves to ask the time, like she has a car and a schedule that she needs to keep lol. So guess who is learning to tell time?! Ava has a clock puzzle that she got for a birthday that we will be using for telling time, so glad I saved this gem. I finally also purchased some counting cubes because guess who is learning addition and subtraction?! I figured having visuals would help her grasp these math concepts. We will also have a few workbooks for additional math reinforcement.

Science/Technology/Art

I'm pretty sure that science is my daughter's favorite subject, she loves learning about space. We do lots of reading and lots of exploring in nature for science. Ava loves to do science experiments and lately she has enjoyed putting together a motorized car! For art, we visit art museums at least 4 times a month. We go to art classes at the museum or art club at the library, less mess for me to clean at home! This year we will also be going to the symphony. The symphony here has shows for young children and I think Ava will enjoy going.

History/Geography

If you follow me on Instagram, I have mentioned a few times that Ava loves maps! She loves drawing them, learning about them, and she insists on having a map to look at in the car lol. This year, we aren't going to in depth into history but we are definitely learning black history and touching on world history.

Extras
When we aren't doing school work, we will be visiting the library, going on playdates, playing at the playground, exploring nature trails, meeting up with homeschool friends, visiting our local museums, participating in ballet, free play gymnastics, and kids yoga.
