1. Find activities and events in your area. A quick google search, or even events on Facebook can help you find activities to participate in. You can also look on your local library website for free kid friendly events.

2. Visit playgrounds often. I like to take my daughter to different playgrounds but we do have a few that we visit more often than others. Taking your child to different playgrounds helps to determine which playgrounds your child likes best and which playgrounds are good for certain times of the year. There are shadier playgrounds for the summer months, and playgrounds with no shade for sunny winter days. There may be playgrounds that you visit at the last minute because it is close by your home or a playground that you like to make a day of.

3. Once you find activities that you and your child like, plan your days and use a planner. Will you go to storytime on Mondays and art class on Wednesdays? What day will be your playground day? If you have activities planned for specific days, children begin to look forward to those days especially if it is something they really enjoy doing.

4. Make mom friends. I am a naturally friendly and talkative person and I tend to make friends easily. However, adult friendly encounters take nurturing to evolve into friendships. Check out this post on finding and keeping mom friends.

There are only a few tips but I have found these to be the most helpful. Are you a new or veteran stay at home mom? Do you have any tips to share? Let me know in the comments! Until next time.

  2. These are all great tips!! Going different places and finding activities is definitely so important. I also like to have plenty of activities for the house so when there are days we don't leave the house (happens often when there is too much snow out), my kids don't go crazy :)

  3. I like "plan your days". I always found waiting until the morning of to decide what to do did not go as smoothly, for me and my kids.

  5. This is something I’m struggling with! From being the one bringing in the most money to staying home with my son not contributing. I’m just now trying to make my mom friends to help my son socialize!

  8. I am also home with my kids. I love your ideas! Getting out to the playgrounds and to local activities helps Both the kids and their moms! Sometimes it’s nice to have a conversation with another mom during the day.

  9. Local activities and coffee groups keep me sane! I'm in an antenatal group with my friends and we've all managed to stay together for a year. I so, so look forward to our weekly coffee catch ups. I think I'd go insane if I couldn't attend. I think I need to branch out and do a few more things though. I mean, there are only so many walks we can go on!

  10. I find myself so much busier when I am making my life "staying home" with my kids (I tended to work evenings) than I ever was when I was working full time. It is so fun.

  11. Making mom friends and hitting the playground are absolute musts! I was a SAHM for my boys when they were younger, hit the park as often as you can because they outgrow it soon enough;)

  14. I'm not a stay at home mom but I need to implement these tips into my weekend routine. I need to do a better job at looking up events in our area so we aren't wasting half the day Saturday and Sunday figuring out what we want to do.

  15. Great ideas for SAHM and mom-to-be's. Planning out the day is something I need to work on consistently rather than planning out one day a week and winging the rest. Planned days definitely go smoother. Finding a community of moms is also important especially when your family/main support system lives out of state. Great tips!

  16. These are good tips. I'm not a SAHM but I'm a WAHM for 4 days a week. I agree, you must have a plan.
